Bleeding Gums….How To Cure It Naturally

Bleeding gums also known as gingivitis is caused by inflammation of the gum around the teeth. This progressive disease may go undetected for many years and its early sign is usually bleeding gums when flossing or brushing teeth. There so many natural ways to cure or treat gingivitis.



Citrus Fruits : Deficiency in vitamin C is one of the major cases of bleeding gums. Citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruit and vegetables such as broccoli contain vitamin C. Increase these foods in your diet to make up of the vitamin deficiency. You can also choose to take vitamin C supplement.


Saline solution : Rinse your  mouth with saline solution in the morning and evening to cure and prevent bleeding gums. The solution also improves circulation in the mouth and reduces swelling. Make solution with one cupoif lukewarm water and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.


Cranberry :It prevents gum disease by preventing bacteria from sticking to teeth.It is better to use cranberry juice with no sugar or home-made cranberry juice. Drink about 4 ounces of this a day


Aloe Vera : The anti inflammatory property of this plant makes it good for dealing with bleeding gums.  It  destroy bacteria responsible for bleeding gums and speeds the healing process. Rub or massage aloe vera paste on the gum. Rinse well after massage.


Milk : Milk contains calcium which is very good for strengthening gum. Drink milk regularly on a daily basis for this to work. The fat in milk may stick to the gum so it is crucial to brush your teeth after drinking milk.


Sage oil, Peppermint oil and Chamomile : Use mouthwash or tooth paste containing sage oil, peppermint oil or chamomile. They are effective for stopping bleeding gums.


Baking soda : It kills bacteria in the mouth by making the mouth acidic. You can apply baking soda to the mouth with the help of  your fingers or just brushing your teeth with it just as you will do with a  tooth paste. You can also make a solution of baking soda and swish in your mouth.


Raw vegetable : Chew raw vegetable everyday. It cleans teeth and improves blood circulation in the mouth.


Gargle the following : Gargle saline solution (a cup of water and a ½ tsp of salt), triphala mixture ( a cup of water and a tsp of triphala) or hydrogen peroxide mixture ( equal parts Hydrogen Peroxide and water ). Don’t swallow the mixtures. This a good for treating bleeding gums.


Cloves : Chew clove slowly or rub gum with clove oil to treat bleeding gums. You may feel a slight burning sensation.


Massage : Massage gum gently with fingers after brushing teeth to increase circulation and stop gums from bleeding.


Brush teeth : Brush teeth twice regularly to treat bleeding gum. It is better to use  toothpaste containing mint, babool, neem, holy basil to reduce swelling and inflammation.


Tea tree oil : It has anti-bacterial properties that kills harmful germs in the mouth. Brush teeth with a couple of drops of tea tree oil. You can also make a mixture with about two drops of this oil in lukewarm water and swish around the mouth.


Extra virgin olive oil : This contains oleic acid and other flavonoids which are anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidants. Take a tablespoon  of this and swish around the mouth about three times a day. Do not swallow. It will clear the mouth of all toxins.


It is also essential to avoid fatty , spicy foods as these gets deposited on the  teeth and provides a food source for microbes to thrive. Smoking also enables the survival of anaerobic bacteria. Avoid smoking.
